1.床位效率是高了还是低了？
床位效率指标反应全院/科室的床位效率指数分布，可以看到本期床位效率是高效率还是低效率，通常也会选取一个标杆进行对比，可以是国家标准，也可以选择同级别的机构进行对比；通过床位效率指数的关联指标（平均住院日、床位周转次数、床位使用率等）的整体时间趋势，可以看到是床位使用率高，平均住院日也高，床位周转次数少；并且从全院到各科室的床位效率大概分布，可以掌握哪几个科室是主要影响全院的指标，贡献度比较大。了解大致的结果后（主要是一些描述性分析结果），下一步查找原因。
2.查找原因
床位效率因素分析可以从各角度探索影响床位效率的因素指标值情况，如指标总体情况，各影响因素的贡献度排名，具体的原因探索包括可量化的指标分析，通常非单一因素多维度分析，如：
①人员因素分析（主要是患者因素****）:
例如平均住院日指标高，分析具体是哪些患者的住院日高，这些患者有什么特征，是否有措施可以帮助提升这类患者的床位相关指标，根据这个导向，分析下面指标：
Ⅰ.平均住院日按住院天数段分布，各个天数段的患者数，住院日高的段患者数量同期环期情况对比，住院日高的患者主要特征变化，比如上期主要是50岁左右的患者较多，骨科；本期主要是一些慢性病患者，压床比较多
Ⅱ.患者的主要疾病分布情况，同样的疾病住院日对比以往是否有增加
Ⅲ.医院的工作人员情况，平均护理人数变化，开放的床位数是否也有相应的变化
②手术因素分析:
住院患者尤其是手术患者，手术的严重程度会影响出院时间的长短，并且术后的情况也会影响是否能按预期出院（感染、医疗安全事故等），分析如下：
Ⅰ.住院患者中手术患者与非手术患者对住院日是否有显著影响
Ⅱ.一般情况，手术患者与住院日成正比，分析手术患者占比变化趋势
Ⅲ.手术严重程度分析，手术患者按等级分类，三四级手术占比是否有增加；三四级手术患者的平均住院日情况
Ⅳ.手术患者的术后感染情况分析（感染率、感染漏报率等），这些患者的住院日情况，这些患者主要是由哪些医生进行主治或者护士护理。
Ⅴ.非计划二次手术例数变化趋势，与住院日的关系情况
③ 医疗安全因素分析：
院内的医疗安全事故常常会延长住院日期，分析医疗安全事故与平均住院日的关系，医疗安全事故主要有哪些，这些类别变化趋势，以及对应的患者基本特征（年龄、疾病等分布），为以后提前预防做准备。
④ 等待时间因素分析 ：
分析患者的术前等待时间，住院日长的患者其术前等待时间是不是过长，分析相关性
Ⅰ.是否有医联体，术前检查是否有在其他医院进行
Ⅱ.是否有停手术现象，（手术准备不充分）
Ⅲ.检查预约时间、检查出报告时间是否增加
